Vulva vs. Vagina: Are They the Same?

It’s okay if you’ve never heard of the vulva. We aren’t really taught the proper terminology for our intimate bits! Many call their coochie a vagina, but actually, that’s not the right word! So let's get into the difference between the vulva and the vagina.

First things first – meet the vulva, the superstar of this show! The vulva is like the majestic gateway, located on the outside, and it's the boss when it comes to your downstairs business. Picture it as your very own VIP entrance – it's got the looks and the charm! The vulva is a squad of amazing parts, including the labia (majora and minora), clitoris, urethra (where you pee), and even the opening of the vagina (the fourchette). Quite the dream team, right?

Many people come to me feeling insecure about their vulvas. They express feeling irritation from their underwear, feeling like their underwear doesn’t fit them right, worrying their labia is too big, long, or ugly. Sometimes they feel so insecure being an “outie” (when your labia minora are longer than your labia majora) and it affects their life in the bedroom. The truth is, all vulvas are different and unique. Long labia minora are actually really common and completely normal and no reason to be insecure.

Now, let's talk about the vagina. This wonderous tunnel of delight connects the outside world to the magical kingdom within. It's the mystical passage that is used for childbirth and reproduction.. But hey, hold on – the vagina doesn't include the whole glitzy vulva package; it's just the hole! Think of it like this: the vulva is your body's glamorous bouncer, welcoming guests to the fabulous party inside, where the vagina is. Lots of people over emphasize the vagina while engaging in sex. The vulva is home to the clitoris, which is what brings most vulva-owners sexual pleasure. The clitoris, labia, and fourchette are made up of tons of nerve endings that when stimulated, feel really damn good! Who knew the vulva was the hidden hero of bomb sex.

Now, we get it – sometimes the lines can get blurry, and it's easy to mix up.. But hey, don't worry! Even the most seasoned anatomy experts have faced these head-scratching moments. It's all part of the wonderful journey of understanding our own bodies.

The key takeaway here is to embrace and celebrate your body, whichever part you're talking about. Cherri makes undies that accommodate all the types of vulvas and are healthy for your vaginal microbiome too. Cherri celebrates all types of vulvas and specifically designs every single garment to fit and flatter you in the best way! The vagina and the vulva may have different names and roles, but they're both incredible in their own way, making each person unique and awe-inspiring!
